Manchester City immediately got Rodri from Atletico Madrid. The Citizens have poured funds to release the midfielder from his contract.
The news of the transfer of Rodri had faded following the lack of progress between City and Atletico. But Europe's top media such as the BBC and Marca today, Wednesday (03/07/2019) night WIB, announced that City had redeemed the 23-year player's release clause.
The redemption fee for the clause is 62.6 million pounds, or around Rp. 1.11 trillion. The BBC reported that a number of lawyers from the player and representatives from City had paid him to the LaLiga office.
With the payment, Rodri freed himself from the contract, which was due to go on until 2023.
Furthermore Rodri just completed the details of his transfer with City and signed on the contract. If there is no serious obstacle, he will become City's most expensive purchase in the history of displacing Riyad Mahrez (60 million pounds).
Positioning as a defensive midfielder, City is projected by Rodri to replace Fernandinho, who is now 34 years old. Rodri last season appeared in 47 matches with a score of three goals and one assist.
